Moviegoers are always eager to rank the best movies in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but what about all those seemingly forgotten Marvel comic book movies that exist outside the MCU? Some of the greatest Marvel superheroes like Spider-Man, Blade, and the X-Men had whole trilogies before the shared universe kickstarted its pop culture dominance with Iron Man in 2008.
Obviously the Spider-Man and X-Men films led indirectly to the Marvel movie landscape, but thanks to the multiverse, even these franchises, which used to be canonically distinct and separate from the Avengers films, now occupy a shared space to one degree or another. Spider-Man appears in the MCU thanks to a deal between Sony and Disney, while the X-Men and Fantastic Four joined the party when Disney purchased 20th Century Fox, the longtime owner of Marvel film rights to mutants and more.
But which of these not-quite MCU movies are the best? Is it a sequel like Spider-Man 2 or a first outing like Deadpool? Speaking of which, while the Merc with a Mouth joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe officially with Deadpool & Wolverine, his two solo efforts were released by Fox with their own continuity, so they're on the list. Similarly, various spin-offs may technically share a universe with Tom Holland's Spidey, but they're still Sony Pictures jams that only tangentially connect to the MCU, so they're here too.
Vote away, comic book movie fans, and let your votes answer that timeless question of which Marvel movies outside the MCU reign supreme.
