The Best Romantic Relationships In The MCU
With more than 20 titles and counting, the Marvel Cinematic Universe was sure to have some memorable romances tucked between the endless fight scenes and sarcastic quips. So let's put down the comic books, grab some popcorn, and watch some movies in order to nail down the best comic book relationships to grace the big screen... at least from Marvel, that is.
From the major relationships that have served as narrative focal points throughout the MCU - we're talking Stark and Potts or Rogers and Carter here - on down to the relationships that have had less time in the spotlight, these are the relationships Marvel fans love to swoon over. Love isn't only reserved for rom-coms after all, right?

The Meet-Cute: Viewers first witness Tony and Pepper's relationship 10 minutes into 2008's Iron Man when Ms. Potts is introduced as Stark's personal assistant. The scene highlights the flirty chemistry between Robert Downey Jr. and Gwyneth Paltrow, and showcases Pepper's singular ability to handle Tony's hyperactive personality.
The Romance: As the first couple of the MCU, Tony and Pepper served as an emotional through-line for the ever-growing series from 2008 all the way through 2019's Avengers: Endgame. Fans get to see the pair's relationship blossom during the Iron Man trilogy, falter as they are "taking a break" in Captain America: Civil War, and ultimately result in the precocious Morgan Stark after the duo settles down for good.
Most Swoon-Worthy Moment: After a four-year hiatus from portraying the character, Paltrow came back to the MCU at the end of 2017's Spider-Man: Homecoming in a short scene that solidifies Pepper and Tony's relationship. Following years of uncertainty for the future of Pepper's prospects in the MCU, fans were delighted to see Paltrow return. When Tony seemingly proposes to her before a press conference, it becomes clear their relationship is for keeps.

The Meet-Cute: In a meeting played entirely for comedic effect, Gamora tricks the oafish Quill by flattering him into letting his guard down in order to take an Infinity Stone off his person. Once she has complimented him to lower his defenses, she kicks him in the stomach, takes the Stone, and sprints in the opposite direction.
The Romance: The relationship between Peter and Gamora gestates from a reluctant partnership in the beginning of Guardians of the Galaxy to a genuine love affair by the time Gamora is executed by her adoptive father Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War. When a time-displaced Gamora - one who doesn't know Quill at all - is brought to the current timeline from the past in Avengers: Endgame, viewers are left to wonder if the pair will unite again in future MCU films.
Most Swoon-Worthy Moment: While the couple's dance scenes from either Guardians of the Galaxy or Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 could easily fit here, it is actually a scene they share together before taking on Thanos in Infinity War that takes the cake as their most intimate scene. In order to make sure Thanos doesn't get his hands on Gamora, she makes Quill promise to terminate her if things go south when they take on the big, purple baddie. This scene, while tragic by its very nature, shows the maturation of the pair's relationship more than any other scene in the franchise.

- Avengers: Age of Ultron
- Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures
The Meet-Cute: Though it's clearly not the first time this pair has met - seeing as they are married and Laura is pregnant at the time - Joss Whedon and company dropped a surprise on everyone with the reveal of Clint Barton's family near the midway point of Avengers: Age of Ultron. It's more of a meet-cute for Laura and the Avengers, to be honest.
The Romance: With Linda Cardellini only appearing as Laura Barton in Avengers: Age of Ultron and Avengers: Endgame, this romance doesn't have all that much screen time logged thus far. This could easily change with the upcoming Hawkeye Disney+ series. That being said, Cardellini and Jeremy Renner immediately settle into a comfortable rapport that gives their relationship a credibility that certainly wasn't guaranteed.
Most Swoon-Worthy Moment: That lovely moment near the end of Avengers: Endgame, after the Hulk brings everyone back with the Infinity Stones, where Laura calls Clint on his cell phone five years after being "snapped" into oblivion by Thanos. This is the first inkling the audience gets that the Avengers' quest was successful. As Renner answers the phone, eyes welling with tears, many viewers cannot help but respond with waterworks of their own.

- Captain America: Civil War
- Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures
The Meet-Cute: Wanda technically meets Vision when the rest of the Avengers do - halfway through Avengers: Age of Ultron - but this doesn't really meet the standards of the traditional "meet-cute." A more fitting moment would be when Vision saves Wanda from her certain demise at the end of that movie after Sokovia begins to crash to the ground. This is the first intimate moment the pair really shares together and it serves as a jumping-off point for their romance.
The Romance: With the seeds firmly planted by Vision saving Wanda's life in Age of Ultron, the duo's courtship begins to blossom through the runtime of Captain America: Civil War, with Vision wishing that the people of the world could see her as he does. By the time Avengers: Infinity War rolls around, Wanda and Vision are in a full-blown relationship, even though they're on opposing sides of the Sokovia Accords. Though Vision was wiped out by Thanos at the end of Infinity War, it's clear that he and Wanda's relationship will be further explored in the Disney+ series WandaVision.
Most Swoon-Worthy Moment: At the end of Infinity War, when Wanda is futilely attempting to stop Thanos from getting the Infinity Stone embedded in Vision's forehead, she ends up having to destroy the Stone, thereby destroying the love of her life. Resigned to his fate and wishing to make things easier on the woman he adores, Vision tells a trembling Wanda, "It's alright. You could never hurt me. I just feel you." It is a genuinely affecting moment between two of the more powerful, yet underutilized, Avengers.

- Ant-Man and the Wasp
- Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures
The Meet-Cute: After Scott passes out inside the Ant-Man suit following a jailbreak, he awakens in a bedroom in the home of Hank Pym. Pym's daughter, Hope Van Dyne, is there to keep watch over Scott - who stole the Ant-Man suit earlier in the film - with a veritable horde of bullet ants. Her obvious saltiness towards Scott belies their eventual relationship.
The Romance: While initially skeptical of Scott's intelligence, fighting skills, and ability in the Ant-Man suit, Hope eventually falls for the goofball by the end of Ant-Man. When the pair return in Ant-Man and the Wasp, they are on the skids due to Scott assisting an outlawed Captain America in Civil War, which unwittingly made crooks out of Scott, Hope, and Hank. Unsurprisingly, they patch things up, and after all is said and done by Endgame's end, the pair can be seen enjoying fireworks with Scott's daughter, Cassie.
Most Swoon-Worthy Moment: During the climax of 2018's Ant-Man and the Wasp, Hope has to save Scott from drowning after he passes out underwater due to exhaustion from using the Ant-Man suit's "Giant-Size" functionality. After he regains consciousness, the two lock lips.

- Spider-Man: Far From Home
- Sony Pictures Releasing
The Meet-Cute: Moviegoers first catch a glimpse of the playfully antagonistic MJ-Peter relationship near the beginning of 2017's Spider-Man: Homecoming. As Peter and his best friend Ned are creepily obsessing over popular girl Liz's outfit, MJ chimes in with the appropriate comment: "You guys are losers."
The Romance: Liz Allan is the romantic lead of Spider-Man: Homecoming. The inevitable relationship between MJ and Peter is hinted at when she reveals, at the end of Homecoming, that her nickname is "MJ." This is a signal to comic book fans everywhere that she is sure to end up dating Peter. By the time Spider-Man: Far from Home ends, the couple is officially together, with more sure to come in the next installment of the franchise.
Most Swoon-Worthy Moment: The delightfully awkward and emotional scene the couple shares after Peter defeats Mysterio at the end of Far from Home is a realistic look at teenage romance and the high point of this fledgling romance.
