The 15 Best Superhero Team-Up Movies That Prove Two Heroes Are Better Than One
Heroes overcoming the odds on their own is impressive, but it’s more fun when they have friends to help them out. Superhero team-up movies are a perfect vehicle for showing that there is strength in numbers, but they also promote friendship, camaraderie, and other wholesome values. Plus, there are plenty of tag-team moments that would make pro wrestlers proud, which is a testament to the butt-kicking awesomeness of superheroes in general.
At the same time, movies are even more fun when the pairings aren’t buddies. There are some great flicks where heroes and villains must unite to achieve a mutual goal. The following films cover everything from traditional superhero factions to oddball pairings begrudgingly accepting each other’s help.
The Team Up: Captain America, Iron Man, Spider-Man, Black Widow, Winter Soldier, Falcon, War Machine, Hawkeye, Black Panther, Vision, Wanda Maximoff, and Ant-Man
The Villain: Baron Helmut Zemo
Tightest Teamwork Moment: Captain America: Civil War’s most notable scene lives up to the title and is a prime example of effective teamwork in action. The moment in question sees Team Iron Man fight Team Captain America in an airport, resulting in all kinds of mayhem taking place. In one memorable action bit, Hawkeye and Wanda make cars fall on top of Iron Man, proving that the so-called supporting players of the Marvel Cinematic Universe were capable of sticking it to the big boys long before they got their own shows.
Awesome team-up?The Team Up: Captain America, Iron Man, Spider-Man, Black Widow, Winter Soldier, Falcon, War Machine, Hawkeye, Black Panther, Vision, Wanda Maximoff, Ant-Man, and the Guardians of the Galaxy
The Villain: Thanos and the Black Order
Tightest Teamwork Moment: The Avengers go on a “time heist” so they can steal the Space Stone and prevent Thanos from becoming too inevitable. It’s a complex and intense mission that requires them to function as a well-oiled unit, but they manage to do just that. Unfortunately, they don't account for Loki escaping through time with a Tesseract like the mischievous rascal he is. Heists are gung-ho at the best of times, but this one has the fate of the universe riding on it.

The Team Up: Wolverine, Professor X, Storm, Magneto, Kitty Pryde, Colossus, Rogue, Blink, Warpath, Bishop, Iceman, and Sunspot
The Villain: Bolivar Trask
Tightest Teamwork Moment: The mutants have a dust-up with an army of Sentinels, and it gets pretty intense. The odds are stacked against them, but Storm and Magneto do the heavy lifting by using their superpowers to take down some enemy ships. Unfortunately, it ends with Magneto taking a shard to the chest, which isn’t ideal, but at least he puts up a good fight.
Awesome team-up?The Team Up: Star Lord, Rocket, Drax the Destroyer, Gamora, and Groot
The Villain: Ronan the Accuser
Tightest Teamwork Moment: The Guardians don’t start out as a team in their first cinematic outing, but they realize they make a good one when they’re forced to escape from Kyln, an interstellar prison that’s populated by swarms of armed guards. Despite some bickering and bizarre conversations - including a moment where Drax defends his reflex skills - the gang manages to remove the gravity from the facility and send their captors into the air. This allows our heroes to commandeer a ship, and the rest is history.
Awesome team-up?The Team Up: Iron Man, Thor, Black Widow, Hawkeye, Hulk, and Captain America
The Villain: Loki and his Chitauri horde
Tightest Teamwork Moment: After taking out Loki’s Chitauri minions, our heroes must complete the tiny task of defeating a giant, worm-like Leviathan that’s rampaging through the city. Hulk slows the creature down with a punch, allowing Iron Man to get a clear shot and finish the job. The Avengers then take a moment to assemble before storming through the streets and over skyscrapers to stop the remaining Chitauri soldiers. Loki should have hired better goons.

The Heroes: Professor X, Magneto, Mystique, Beast, Banshee, Darwin, Havok, & Moira MacTaggert
The Villain: Sebastian Shaw
Tightest Teamwork Moment: X-Men: First Class is a movie about teaching, so teamwork is a big part of it. Some of the best moments of unity occur during the training montages, which center around a young Charles Xavier and Erik Lehnsherr helping students hone their skills. One of the most memorable sequences feature some unorthodox teamwork, as Erik pushes Banshee off a satellite tower so that he can learn to fly. It’s a questionable method, sure, but no one can argue with the results.
