Vote up the most clever examples of foreshadowing in the MCU.

By the time the MCU ended its third phase, it had managed to release 23 films to form a cohesive story comprised of nearly all the elements that came before Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. Those movies worked off the ones that came before, but that doesn't mean there wasn't a ton of foreshadowing building up to the inevitable conclusion, pitting the Avengers, Guardians of the Galaxy, Wakandans, and more against the combined might of Thanos.

Some eagle-eyed observers noticed these bits of foreshadowing as well as those foretelling events in their own movies as the films were being released. Over time, more than a few folks had a good idea of what was coming with each successive MCU release. Fortunately, those viewers have shared their observances via the MovieDetails subreddit, making it possible to look back and have an "oh yeah" moment from any of these interesting examples.

Thor's Missing Eye Is Visually Foreshadowed

While fighting his older sister Hela, Thor sustained a critical injury after she slashed through his right eye. For those paying attention, there was some advanced notice, as Redditor u/uEAZYG247 pointed out:

The rubble left by the Asgardian mural in Thor: Ragnarok foreshadows the injury Thor receives later.

New Asgard Was Found Long Before It Was Settled

Odin's passing was an evocative scene, and because it was immediately followed by Hela's arrival, few fans noticed the foreshadowing like Redditor u/zanduby:

In Thor: Ragnarok (2017) before Odin dies in Norway, he points out to the distance and tells Thor and Loki, "Remember this place, home." This is where New Asgard is located in Endgame.

Vision Is Created From Ultron After The Villain Says "Everyone Creates The Thing They Dread"

Ultron was an intelligent and ruthless villain, but he had quiet moments of contemplation. In one, he told something to Wanda that was noticed by Redditor u/JustANormalUser721:

Towards the beginning of the movie Ultron tells Wanda, "everyone creates the thing they dread." Ultron later begins to create Vision, a stronger form of himself, who plays a large role in Ultron's demise. (Avengers: Age of Ultron, 2015)

Thanos Alludes To His Own Eventual Defeat

Thanos was an interesting villain, and he wasn't without some interesting things to say. One comment in Infinity War foreshadowed the moment of his eventual loss, as noted by Redditor u/IamtheWil:

In Infinity War (2018), Thanos' opening monologue he says, "I know what it's like to lose.... Turns the legs to jelly." Later in Avengers: Endgame (2019) upon realizing his loss - the first thing Thanos does is take a seat.

The Red Skull Outs Himself In His First Scene

Just because Marvel Comics fans knew the truth of the Red Skull, that didn't mean people unfamiliar with the character weren't aware -- of course, there was this bit of foreshadowing noted by Redditor u/H3CTICNMS that suggested his true nature:

In Captain America: The First Avenger (2011) Red skulls accident is cleverly foreshadowed after killing the keeper of the Tesseract.

Tony's Throw Away Joke Foreshadowes His House's Destruction

Sometimes, you should really watch what you say. That's something that Tony should have known before giving his address to terrorists, but more than that, there was some foreshadowing noted by Redditor u/SupermansBrother:

In Iron Man 3, in this scene Tony tells Pepper, "I've got a group of guys coming over tomorrow to blow out that wall." The next day, The Mandarin attacks Tony's house and blows out the wall he was pointing at.
