Public opinion is a constantly swinging pendulum, as any celebrity can probably tell you. When it comes to celebrity couples, once adored duos, like Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively, can be suddenly hounded with backlash and caught in hot water. Or, the constant media coverage of an “it” pair, like Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce, merely becomes tiring (for both them and us). In other cases, people might find certain celebrity pairings off-putting from the jump - perhaps due to a large age gap or perceived mis-match.
These parasocial relationships between fans and celebrities can certainly be problematic, but in many cases it's a case of too much tabloid reporting or more public social media displays of affection than anyone wanted. While online hate and bullying is never called for, these are the celebrity couples we'd respectfully like some distance after 2024. We're guessing most of them would also be more than happy to give it to us.
Coming off the heels of the infamous Oscars slap in 2022, in 2023 Jada Pinkett-Smith released her memoir, Worthy, where she revealed she and Will Smith had been separated for years prior to the incident. In 2024, they made a red carpet appearance for Bad Boys: Ride or Die.
